Royal Run to Bun 2022

Thanks to everyone who turned out over the weekend for the Royal Run to Bun 2022. We are blown away by all the support and good wishes as we celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of our Development and launched Phase 2 Walking Track.

Thanks to everyone who took part in getting the ball down from Croke Park to Bun over the 2 days. A massive thank you to everyone who donated over the weekend also. Your continued support allows us to continue the development and provide the best facilities for everyone in our community to use.

We would also like to thank Sam McCartan and TJ Cox for bringing out the Tailteann Cup on Saturday evening and for being so patient with all the autograph and photograph requests. It was a great way to round off the Royal Run to Bun.

Junior Championship

We travelled to Delvin on Tuesday last to take on Ballycomoyle in Round 2 of the Championship. Played in warm conditions on a great surface, Bun managed to get over the line to record a three point win on the referee's final whistle.

While there will be some disappointment with some of the scores conceded, Bun’s character and resilience can not be questioned as evidenced by a strong final 15 minutes when they came from 7 points down to record a vital win after losing to St. Joseph’s in round one.

Bun started brightly and were ahead when Ronan Scally kicked a point. Two goal chances went begging for Bun shortly after and on another day they would have hit the back of the net. Ballycomoyle scored a goal of their own after a mistake by Bun when in possession. Daire McLaughlin, in his starting championship debut for the club, responded with a fine effort from play.

Ballycomoyle then scored a second goal after a fast move upfield when they turned over possession. Darragh Lyons responded with a point from a free before Barry O Mara scored a point after a fine team move, before Dcally slotted his second point of the night to cut the deficit to one point. Ballycomoyle scored two points either side of a Darragh Lyons effort to leave the score 2:03 to 0:06 at half time.

Ballycomoyle got the first point of the second half before a couple of wides from Bun. Aidan Finnan steadied the ship when pointing a 45 before Ballycomoyle responded with a third goal to extend their lead and followed shortly after by another point with 10 minutes remaining.

To their credit the lads all put their shoulders to the wheel and went about cutting the deficit. The introduction of Peter Tormey was significant to this and he had two points on the board immediately after coming on, both fine efforts after good build up play. Barry O Mara followed with another point before Liam Mitchell rolled back the years with a great run through the middle to fire over a fine point.

Bun were on a roll now and were winning battles all over the pitch with key turnovers and interceptions. Brian Maguire epitomised this work rate when he hassled his man into coughing up possession before laying off to O Mara to slot over again.

Then came the crucial score of the game. John Kiernan put a series of passes together to move up the field and took a pass from Maguire before slotting into the top corner of the net for a brilliant finish. Kenny Conroy put the game beyond doubt with a superb score off his left foot to complete a remarkable comeback and hand Bun the two points on offer!

Well done to the team and management on a great win. There was great character shown by all to come back from the brink of defeat.

LGFA Blitz

Well done to our U8 and U10 girls who played in a blitz in Mullingar Shamrocks on Saturday morning.

Our U8s played against Ballymore, Milltown and Shamrocks while our U10s played against two Shamrocks teams and Milltown. Terrific performances by all present. Thanks to Mullingar Shamrocks for hosting.

Inny Shamrocks

Well done to the Inny Shamrocks U17s who put in a great effort and played some fine football against St. Loman’s in the championship on Tuesday evening last. Unfortunately, despite our team's best efforts, St Loman’s won with a couple of points to spare.

Well done to St Loman’s on a good win in what was an entertaining and sporting encounter. Keep it going lads, plenty of football to be played yet.

Inny Shamrocks U13s got back to winning ways last Monday evening with a great win over Garrycastle in the 3rd round of the Championship.

Well done to all the team and management on a fantastic effort. Keep up the great work lads! Final Score: Inny Shamrocks 4-14 Garrycastle 3-6.

All Ireland Fleadh

Best of luck to all our competitors taking part in the Fleadh next week. There has been tremendous work put in by the organisers and we hope it is a great success. Well done to all involved.

Well done to Cathy Horohoe and Brian Crum who won the All Ireland Final Hurling and Football tickets respectively. We hope you enjoyed the matches!
