Division 3 vs Tyrrellspass

We hosted Tyrrellspass in the league on Sunday morning. In what was a bright day, the extremely windy conditions would play a crucial part in the outcome of this game. Tyrrellspass played with the wind in the first half and made this advantage count on the scoreboard by heading in to break with a commanding 4:05 to 1:03 lead.

They had three goals on the board in the first ten minutes as Bun struggled to get into the game. An Aidan Finnan point from a free and two points from Mark Donnelly helped to stem the tide. With five minutes to go in the opening half Cian Tighe was on hand to react first from Ronan Scally’s shot that hit the post before he gathered possession and buried a shot to the corner of the net.

Bun, having played poorly in the first half, put in a battling performance in the second half and would go on to kick ten points. Aidan Finnan kicked Buns first three points of the half from frees and play. Ronan Scally burst through to fire over after some great work by our defenders.

Tyrrellspass weathered this storm and scored another goal. This was a real sucker punch as Bun passed up a couple of their own goal chances. Cian Tighe claimed a fine mark after a long ball from Scally to curl over a great point. Scally was on hand again to fire over after taking a great pass from Simon Moorehead.

Aidan Finnan kicked over another free after John Kiernan was fouled after a great run up the field. Moorehead would get Buns final score of the game to leave five points in it at the final whistle.

Team: Liam Mitchell, Conor Newman, Joe Tormey, Eoin McGowan, David Newman, Simon Moorehead, Matthew Hope, Brian Maguire, John Kiernan, Mark Donnelly, Johnny Nolan, Ronan Scally, Andy Whitney, Aidan Finnan and Kevin Mitchell. Subs: Cian Tighe for Mitchell, Eoghan Murray for McGowan, Fintan Finnan for Nolan, Enda Newman for Maguire, Gavin Lyons, Finian Newman & Tommy Murphy.

Division 7 vs Ballycomoyle

We travelled to Ballycomoyle on Tuesday last to take on the home side in our opening game in Division 7 of the league. This match was an opportunity for some players to get some valuable game time and it was great to welcome back some familiar faces for this fixture.

On a fine evening for football Bun made a good start to the game and Kevin Mitchell won a free early on after showing well for a ball. Ken Conroy struck the resulting free expertly, something he would repeat on several occasions throughout the match. Further points from Mark Donnelly, another Conroy free, and two great points from play by Kevin Mitchell had Bun in a strong position in the first half.

Ballycomoyle gradually found their rhythm and won a few frees which they converted to close the deficit. With ten minutes remaining in the opening half, the home side were awarded a penalty. Tommy Murphy rolled back the years and made a superb save with his foot. While he was diving to his right he stretched every fibre in his hamstring to get a strong leg to the penalty which was struck down the middle. This save gave Bun a huge lift and went into half time 0:06 to 0:05 in front.

Ballycomoyle started the second half strongly and dominated the opening ten minutes. They equalised from play before kicking a free to go a point in front and were in a strong position at this stage. But Bun battled back and some brilliant defending from the back six gave us a platform to attack again. Darragh Lyons pointed from a free before Cian Tighe found space to shoot over from play after a good team move.

Darragh Lyons kicked a fine score from play before Kenny Conroy again pointed expertly from a free out on the right hand side after Tighe was fouled. This edged Bun a point ahead before Donnelly pointed from play after some great work by Jonny Nolan. Conroy kicked the final score of an absorbing game after Donnelly was fouled after some great play by Tighe again who slipped the pass to force the opposition to conced the free.

This was a solid win for Bun and they will be pleased with getting game time into returning players. Cian Tighe was prominent throughout the second half and was a great target man up front. He worked extremely hard and was rewarded with a great point when the team needed it badly in the second half.

Team: Tommy Murphy, Eoin McGowan, Joe Tormey, Eoghan Murray, David Newman Gavin Lyons, Conor Newman, Brian Maguire, Mark Donnelly, Cian Tighe, Johnny Nolan, Ken Conroy, Finian Newman, Darragh Lyons & Kevin Mitchell. Subs: Liam Mitchell for Gavin Lyons, Chris Cole & John Casey.

Best of luck to the Inny Shamrock U12s who play two games next weekend when they are away to Ballycomoyle on Friday evening and then face Cill Oige on Sunday morning in Bunbrosna.

Inny Shamrocks U14s

Hard luck to the Inny Shamrock U14s who put in a strong performance on Wednesday evening and led for most of the game but in the end narrowly lost out to a very spirited Delvin Gaa side.

There was some great football played by both sides on a perfect evening for football so well done to both sets of players and their coaches.

Inn Shamrocks Minors

Inny Shamrocks Minors lost out to Cill Óige on Friday 5th April in Rosemount in Round 2 of the League. Despite the loss there were a huge number of positives for Inny Shamrocks, who continue to show signs of development in matches as well as at training.

With tremendous commitment and effort from every player, Inny Shamrocks produced a valiant and battling display, producing some truly excellent passages of play throughout. Other notable positives were the return of Dylan Brown, James Ruisinger and Ross Duke for their first outing this year in Inny Shamrocks colours, and each of them produced a performance of real quality, with James Ruisinger's stellar performance at midfield particularly eye-catching. Other positives from the evening included William Medforth's exceptional showing between the goalposts, Trian Leslie's valiant display at centre back, James Baird's hard running and two excellent second-half goals, Kyle Parker's consistent threat upfront and the steely tough display from Zach Maguire in defence. Well done to everyone!

Training continues on Monday in Bun on the Astro at 730.
